Mesquite, Texas, named by the state legislature as the Official Rodeo Capital of Texas, may not be the Music Capital of Texas just yet. But it may well be right on its way. For years, the City has had a thriving music scene propelled by a world-class symphony. Thanks to this and concerts at the Mesquite Arena, the City is now home to many award-winning performances. Happy concert-going!

MESQUITE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

For 35 years, the Mesquite Symphony Orchestra has provided the City with an impressive classical music program. The orchestra, led by Music & Artistic Director Felix Torres, performs six times each season, focusing on a different theme for each performance.

MESQUITE COMMUNITY BAND

The Mesquite Community Band is made up of volunteer musicians from all walks of life. The band has performed many events and in many different venues all throughout the City. Every year the band holds several concerts with a variety of themes and sounds. From patriotic performances for the 4th of July to their jolly holiday performances during the Christmas season. If you like for your music to have a little more story and dance, then you’ll want to keep an eye on the Mesquite Arts Theatre. This local group of community-based players has been around since 1983. Since then, they’ve put on classic performances such as “A Streetcar Named Desire” and “Nunsense the Mega Musical Version”, along with contemporary plays. You can catch a play at the Black Box Theatre at the Mesquite Arts Center. The current season includes “Little Old Lady in Tennis Shoes” and “Like Kissing Moonlight”. THE DOWNTOWN MESQUITE FARMERS MARKET

The Downtown Mesquite Farmers Market is your destination for authentic local flavor. Every Saturday from April to November, head to Front Street Station to experience local singers and musical artists in front of the outdoor stage. While you’re there discover a selection of artisanal products, locally grown produce, baked goods, and more. Enjoy a scrumptious meal from one of the food vendors who offer everything from ice cream to snow cones, and barbecue to classic fair food.

THE MESQUITE ARENA

At the heart of the City’s live music scene is one of Mesquite’s most revered, raved-about, and long-standing venues: The Mesquite Arena. Built in 1986, the arena has been a fun-filled stalwart in the area for more than three decades. A wide array of award-winning musical acts with an equally broad mix of genres have all come to the City. Notable past performers include country music all-stars, Mark Chesnutt, and Keith Sweat. and Motown masterminds The Temptations and The Four Tops. In terms of genres, there’s been everything under the Texas sun, including country, funk, Latin music, classic rock, and even R&B and hip-hop at the Hip-Hop Rodeo (a real Texas treat).

As you can see, you have plenty of options for live music, and those options are only getting better.
